Tamilar Thirunaal “200 Years of Tamil Language Teaching in Malaysia”
As a country which celebrates Diversity and Unity, Malaysia is proud of its multilingual, multicultural essence among its people. The Indian community in Malaysia is free to practice, maintain and promote their traditional culture to others for generations together.
Tamil language being one of the widest spoken language among the Indian community in Malaysia was first officially recognized when Tamil language was taught in Penang Free School in 1816. Eventually almost 54 years later – in 1870 Tamil schools were introduced.
Tamilar Thirunaal was introduced by Indian community leaders in Malaysia in 1952 as a noble effort to unite the Indian community in this country; regardless of their mother tongue (Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam) and religion (Hindu, Muslim, Christian). Tamilar Thirunaal has been widely accepted by everyone in the Indian community, and has become an annual celebration throughout the country.
DHRRA Malaysia will be organizing an event to commemorate 200 years of Tamil Language in Malaysia with a souvenir book which details the journey of Indian descendants who migrated from India during the British colonization of Malaya.
This event is also celebrates the theme of uniqueness and sharing of the Indian arts and culture among all Indians in Malaysia through a compilation of musicals show. We look forward for your presence on the following date:
