Empowerment of Malaysian Women and Grassroots CSOs as Agents of Development and Change

In line with the global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development specifically Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, DHRRA Malaysia  has embarked on the initiative entitled “Empowerment Of Malaysian Women and Grassroots CSOs as Agents of Development and Change”, with the support of the European Commission, to bring together national actors, mainly 1800 grassroots women, 300 grassroots CSOs and 150 women political leaders, towards strengthening the role of women in the Malaysian society. The initiative is in accordance with SDGs framework which calls for active participation of CSOs in the implementation of the SDGs at national and global level, and consists of a series of activities to build the capacity of the grassroots women CSOs and to empower them as agents of development and change within their communities.  The grassroots CSOs are continuously mentored to enable them to engage with policy makers, and monitor the government’s implementation of gender related laws and policies. This initiative aims to enhancement the capacity of women and grassroots CSOs to contribute to the governance and development process in Malaysia.
