Our universe is governed by scientific principles. The discovery of these principles has enabled human kind to manipulate and adapt to the environment. Science has always been one of the vital tools for nation development. Cultivating scientific ensured the development of individual, community and nation. Keeping this view in mind, Science Fair for Young Children is a continuous attempt to cultivate the interest in science among the students of Tamil Schools.
DHRRA Malaysia is proud to be the Organizing Committee for Kuala Lumpur & Selangor State Level Science Fair and Perak State Level Science Fair. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude towards YB Tuan P. Kamalanathan A/L P. Panchanathan, Deputy Minister of Education II, for enlightening the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor State Level Science Fair 2013 with his presence. I would also like to thank Ministry of Federal Territories for supporting Kuala Lumpur & Selangor State Level Science Fair 2013. I also appreciate Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya for granting SFYC permission to hold this event in their premise.
Despite being essential field of knowledge, there is a tendency among students to see science as an intimidating subject. DHRRA Malaysia believes that children should be given opportunity to engage both physically and mentally in investigating and manipulating elements in their environment in order to break this barrier. This is in line with Einstein’s words, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
The School Level Science Fair enables all the Tamil Schools and students to be exposed to the learning of scientific methodology through fun and interactive manner. On the other hand, the State Level Science Fair provides an opportunity for the students to experience the creativity and innovation presented by other schools. Moreover, State Level Science Fair creates a healthy environment for inculcating competitive spirit among the participating students and schools. In earlier days, we were competing only among ourselves. However, now we are competing in the International Arena. thereby, it is essential to educate our students in par with globalization.
“I have not failed; I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Thomas A. Edison
A good scientist is one who is able to accept his or her failures. History has shown that high achievers are those who sees failures as windows for improvement. As an annual event, Science Fair allows the participating schools to encourage their students towards success.
Moreover, through Science Fair for Young Children, students will be able to sharpen their communication skills while understanding the dynamics. These values will provide an edge for these children and assist them in their future endeavors. Consistent with DHRRA Malaysia’s quest for betterment of Indian Community, it is only to cultivate these values form childhood. In line with this effort, DHRRA Malaysia has initiated the publication of a dual language scientific magazine for Tamil School students called Arivan, which is being distributed every month to all the Tamil schools for free.
Kuala Lumour & Selangor State Level Science Fair has seen increased participation from schools this year. I would like to thank all the Guru Besar, teachers, parents and students for participating and making this event a success. DHRRA Malaysia also appreciates the contribution by sponsors, volunteers, judges, media and everyone who has played their role. I would like to applaud the determination exhibited by the Science Fair for Young Children and associated entities for making this journey a success.
