SUNGAI PETANI, Feb 27 (Bernama) — Forty-four people received their personal identification documents with the help of the Development of Human Resources in Rural Area (DHRRA Malaysia) today.
Its president, S. Saravanan said DHRRA Malaysia conducted a house-to-house mapping from September to December in 2014 to assist those who needed identification documents.
Thirty-six people received birth certificates, two received identity cards and the rest obtained citizenship documents, he told reporters here after the handing over of the documents to the recipients by Kedah Education, Transport and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zain.
Meanwhile, one of the recipients, L. Lecthumi, 17, said she was happy and touched at receiving her identity card and birth certificate after waiting for 17 years.
“I am the eldest of five siblings but the only one who does not have identification documents,” she said after receiving the documents, while accompanied by her mother, R. Apiramaanntih.
Apiramaanntih, 41, said she was late in registering Letchumi’s birth because her husband was in prison.
However, Letchumi still did not receive her identification documents even after registration.
“Despite our financial woes, some parties tried to take advantage and demanded for certain payment…but we were lucky that DHRRA Malaysia came to our aid,” she added.
